The Art Box
The project is a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) handicraft studio, where people can make anything with leather such as clothes, accessories and daily necessities. There is a retail area displaying various leather products, and an extensive workshop room for leather-making where craftsmen can work in a quiet and comfortable environment.
The design emphasises the changeability and interlace of the shaping space with multiple high-level spaces inside the building, making guests feel the comfort of the large-scale space. Plants and trees add life and a touch of greenery to the space. The rear part of the building is the richest aspect of the project – through the different shapes of each floor, it presents an interlace appearance offering an exploratory sense of space access, and makes the building more visually interesting. The interior is dominated by white and dark grey wood with a contrasting colour style, creating a more vibrant atmosphere. In the range of sight, the project blends in with the charming history and traditional culture of Kampong Glam.
