Kathy Kao Sheue Chyi is a fresh graduate in interior design. She strives to design unique interior spaces that tell the story of the people or brand that inhabit them. She is adaptable and driven with a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in team-based or individually motivated settings. In her previous role as a visual merchandiser, she developed an eye for quality and a superior sense of style. In a nutshell, she thinks that interior design is essentially about attention to details with a stroke of inspiration and a focus on where practicality and beauty converge. In the future, she would like to explore different aspects of art and travel worldwide for experience and inspiration.

Work

The Co-Weave

'Immersed in weaving'.

A co-working fashion hub, a place for the young local designer to learn and grow. The site is located at 48/50 Arab Street, surrounded by brightly coloured textiles from different cultures. It inspired me to design a co-working fashion hub that collects and reuses leftover fabrics from the textile shops around as the resource material for the co-working studio. The hub is designed for the young local designer to learn different design cultures by using various textiles to form one piece of cloth and save the environment at the same time. The hub also allows them gain experience before becoming a professional designer in the industry.

The design concept was inspired by the weaving process of the textile. The weaving thread in and out through the canvas is translated as a fluid design that flows through the grid structure of the building. The flow that passes through the entire space also represents the designer's journey when they go through their design process.
