Cheong Jun Hong
Jun Hong is a product designer, design thinker and photographer. He graduated from LASALLE's BA in Product Design, and holds a Diploma in Business Innovation and Design with a Certificate in Software Programming and Applications from Singapore Polytechnic. Jun Hong worked on projects with clients such as Panasonic and National Health Group Polyclinics, which required desk and user research to understand the needs of stakeholders. Through such projects, he had to balance user needs, design considerations and business practicality. In addition to achieving multiple photography awards, he also worked with Singapore University Sports Council to cover the 19th ASEAN University Games 2018 in Myanmar. In 2015, he covered the General Elections as a freelance photojournalist with Singapore Press Holdings.
Work
ORION: a Zero-G gastronomic experience
Designed for the near future, ORION aims to provide a multisensory gastronomic experience for space tourism. This design seeks to reimagine how space tourists would experience drinking in microgravity and viewing Earth from orbit. It consists of a centrepiece drink dispenser and vessel for drinking.
This project envisions a future where space tourism becomes a method to reduce alienation by inspiring and reconnecting people with Earth instead of becoming a way for people to escape from its problems. Earth viewing had been selected as the focus of this project, as astronauts had described it as a life-changing experience.
