Thesis abstract

Study of factors for K-pop’s commercialisation: a proposal for sustainable development in the K-pop industry

This dissertation aims to research how the K-pop industry has developed and changed throughout the years, and the factors that have impacted both the mechanics of commercialisation as well as the development of the K-pop industry ecosystem. Through an in-depth analysis of the current idol management practices and government support, this paper proposes three recommendations that can create better support structures for the K-pop industry through efforts made by the Korean government and idol agencies. The study focuses on the major agencies that monopolise the market and does not reflect the entire K-pop industry.
