Thesis abstract

Understanding the role of Esplanade in the development of Singapore's street dance scene

Singapore’s street dance scene has evolved and seen significant growth over the years. It has also gone on to be recognised by the National Arts Council in its Dance Sector Plan, and schools have also incorporated street dance as part of their co-curricular activities. The national performing arts centre Esplanade has also incorporated and featured street dance in its annual dance festival, da:ns festival, and various programmes series. The purpose of this research is to examine and gain a better understanding of Esplanade’s contribution to the development of the local street dance scene.
